Our history

Four academic friends, who have not met in person as a group of four, but some of whom had been working together for years, headed to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim for the ACM Conference on Interaction Design and Children (ACM) in the summer of 2018.

A day before the conference starts, attend the 3-day International and Interdisciplinary Workshop on Children and Recommender and Information Retrieval Systems (KidRec).

They discussed the many interesting research questions on information retrieval in an educational setting at this workshop. Emiliane Murgia (the inquiring teacher), Monica Landoni (the human-media interaction and design researcher), Theo Huibers (co-founder of Wizenoze, an IR for Students edTech company and Information Retrieval researcher) and Sole Pera (Recommendation and Information Retrieval researcher) agreed to continue working together after the conference.

Two primary schools in Milan, Italy and Lugano, Switzerland, were the first stage for numerous research projects. And so the cooperation developed into a close-knit international research team. On this site, you will find the collection of projects resulting in articles, organised and upcoming workshops and some background information.
